    The Flash #11

The Flash: Francis Manapul, Brian Buccellato, Marcus To, Ray McCarthy, Ian Herring, Wes Abbott

It’s getting hot in here. And Heat Wave took off his clothes. We’re introduced to another of the Rogues. You know something’s gonna happen when we see, at least mention of, Captain Cold, his sister, Pied Piper, Weather Wizard, the new Turbine, and finally Heat Wave.

Barry’s back in town. In fact, he’s back…in another town. Our hero’s moved to Keystone City, where the crime per capita is higher. This way he can, as he says, be like Batman and get to know his enemies better and learn about criminals. I love this idea. He even goes into a bar to find work so he can earn a living - now that Barry Allen the police officer is dead. This is genius. Barry the bartender. I can’t wait to see how that develops. I really hope it lasts for a long time. A different chapter in his life.

Patty gets reamed for her stunt in South America as both her and Director Singh grieve Barry’s “death,” and we see Flash’s former ally, Dr. Elias, talking about his plans to “Bruce Wayne” the cities and bring them to a new time of prosperity. He denounces vigilantes and supervillains alike.

At the bar, Barry starts making friends with Cap Cold, and then Heat Wave shows up! Well, time to ditch the civvies. I like the fact that we had to wait until halfway through the issue before we see the Flash. Tensions are high between the two Rogues, and it’s suggested that Snart is responsible for their “upgrades” in some way. He mentions just trying to help, while Heat Wave blames Snart for his new fire abilities…which he’s obviously upset about.

Marcus To’s art is fantastic. I’m so happy he got another issue. I’m not sure if he’s on #12 or the Annual, but his work is gorgeous. I still like his rendition of Barry slightly better because he makes him actually look younger, like he’s supposed to be. And the fire and cold effects in this issue are awesome, with great coloring work by Herring and Buccellato. Another great-looking issue.

The Flash #11, the verdict: Glider has appeared again - last ish to Weather Wizard - and it appears as though she’s recruiting the Rogues…trying to get the band back together, as it were. I’m so excited to see what happens next! I’m also wondering where other Rogues are, like Mirror Master and Trickster. And how, if at all, Turbine’s going to be a part of it. Is he coming out of the Speed Force to join the fight against Flash? We’ll see…. I love the questions this series is making me ask. I love the changes to the traditional Barry story we’re seeing. Everything these guys are doing for the Flash is just perfect.
