    Static Shock #7

Static Shock: Marc Bernardin, Scott McDaniel, Andy Owens, Dezi Sienty, Guy Major, Khary Randolph, Le Beau Underwood, Emilio Lopez

Alright, folks, I really enjoyed this issue. It was a lot of FUN. A great story about some dude breaking into STAR Labs and setting loose some tech to keep everyone busy while he makes off with the goods. This dude, Phayze, can walk through stuff via the tech in his suity thingy. Static is a freaking genius and figures out how to stop him with, quote, “Science, bitch.” It was epic. That’s what I love about this series so much is the use of tech and science as Virgil applies his knowledge to his heroics to save the day. The same with Mister Terrific. And, look, guys…both of these science-happy books are canceled. WHO DID THIS?! I guess DC fans just don’t like science. :( In any case, we have a really great issue as the second-to-last issue for Static Shock, with some excellent art - still provided by McDaniel, even though Marc Bernardin is guest-writing this issue - that equals the amount of fun the story exhibits. What’s even better is how we get to see Static in action wearing that hood! I love it when the hooded heroes actually wear their hoods (Jason Todd excluded, because…well…c’mon). It’s sad, though, because it does feel like the series is wrapping up…you can kind of feel it in that last scene between Virgil and one of his sisters. I’m going to miss this title. And I didn’t even want to read it when it was announced.

Static Shock #7, the verdict: For a book that I never planned to read, this has been wild. It’s such a fun, funny, and action-packed title that I really love. McDaniel has been doing a great job of delivering a single arc that has spanned most of the series’ life. This issue follows that arc with a single story that really delivers on everything that has, so far, made this series great. I have to really hand it to Bernardin for capturing that feeling, that essence. One more issue to go, folks. I’m sorry to see it go. (Seriously, DC, why?)
